In October we reported of Yamaha launching a new scooter in the Indian market (link). Riding on the success of the Ray scooter the Japanese two wheeler maker is all set to launch a new unisex scooter tomorrow. We have confirmed news of the same and will target mainly for family buyers and will be pitted directly against the segment leader Honda Activa.
We could expect the new scooter to be based on one of the company’s global platform like the CYGNUS X which is currently sold in the European market. The Cygnus is powered by a Single cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled 125cc engine with Maximum power 8.2 kW @ 8,500 rpm & Maximum torque 9.3 Nm @ 7,500 rpm.
The scooter will sport a Comfortable dual seat to offer a more comfortable ride especially on longer commutes. We can hope a better instrument console compared to the Ray and some exciting colour options.
Yamaha is currently focusing on the scooter segment to increase their market share which has been growing at a faster pace than motorcycles. Also competition in the scooter segment is less as compared to the entry motorcycle which has more than 20 plus models on offering.
Stay tuned for more details on Yamaha’s new scooter.
