Volkswagen has announced the name of the Indian Compact Sedan AMEO.
Volkswagen Ameo will see its world premiere at the 13th edition of Delhi Auto Expo and will be on display at the Volkswagen Pavilion during the press & public days of exposition. The company will reveal the car a day prior to the expo on 2nd of February.
Derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’, meaning ‘I love’, Volkswagen Ameo is a truly special offering that combines the brand values of best-in-class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience. The design language is underlined by general bursts of emotion, conceptualized to move the body, mind and soul.
The Volkswagen Ameo has been designed specifically for the Indian market, and will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan facility.
By marking its entry into the dynamic compact sedan space, the Volkswagen Ameo is expected to be a game changer for the brand in India. The Ameo will have to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Figo Aspire.
The Ameo will share many of its parts with Polo and Vento and could also get new features to distinguish the car with the Polo. In terms of engines, the Ameo will be powered by 1.2 MPI petrol engine and 1.5 TDI diesel engine which also does duty on the Polo hatchback.
Transmission options include a 5 speed gear box and VW could also offer the 7 speed DSG on the diesel.
Pricing could be in the range of Rs. 5.35 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs.
