Datsun unveiled the all-new Redi-Go hatchback it the Indian market. The Redi-Go concept was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and is the second product from the Datsun stable to be globally unveiled in India after the Go hatchback.
The company is calling the Redi-Go an urban cross which has a unique fusion of compact crossover and urban hatchback offering the best of both worlds. The compact car has a high ground clearance of 185mm and is based on the versatile Common Module Family (CMF-A) platform from the Renault-Nissan Alliance which also underpins the Kwid hatch.
The design is fresh, striking with modern styling which is made to appeal to the younger generation of buyers. The exteriors are identical to the concept expect for the headlamps and tail lights which are toned down yet look modern.
The interiors look basic but have functional features like lockable glovebox, cup holders and front power windows.
The Redi-Go is powered by a 0.8L three-cylinder fuel efficient engine paired with a five speed manual transmission and we could expect fuel efficiency of 25 kmpl. More details will be announced later.
The event was witness by all the top honchoes of Nissan and Datsun – Vincent Cobee –Global Head of Datsun, Guillaume Sicard – President, Nissan India Operations, Daniele Schillaci, Executive Vice President- Global Sales and Marketing at Nissan Motor Co., Christian Mardrus – Chairman for Africa, Middle East and India region at Nissan Motor Co., Arun Malhotra- Managing Director, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd.
The car will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon and top variants will also compete with the newly launched Tata Motors Tiago.
The company will officially launch the car in June and bookings open in May.
