Honda Motorcycle Scooter India is working on the new Unicorn 150/160 and has filed for the patent design.
The company has set an ambitious target to become India’s number one two wheeler player and is working on a number of new products to dethrone Hero MotoCorp.
The Commuter 150cc segment has been showing decent growth as commuters are looking for higher cc motorcycles which also offer good fuel efficiency and are lighter on pocket.
The 150cc segment is largely dominated by Bajaj Pulsar 150 which has been the segment leader ever since its launch. The TVS RTR 160 is placed second followed by Honda’s CB Unicorn 150 and CB Unicorn 160.
The Unicorn has been in the market for over 10 years and has been refreshed 3 times. Honda discontinued the CB Unicorn 150 with the launch of CB Unicorn 160, however re-introduced the commuter motorcycle at 2014 Auto expo.
The new Unicorn will be expected to be sharper in design and will likely borrow design cues from CB Hornet. The New Unicorn will be offered with a new 150cc engine which could be designed to meet future BS6 emission norms.
The current Unicorn is powered 149.2 cc BS engine which develops max power of 9.5 kW (12.73 bhp) @ 8000 rpm and max torque of 12.80 Nm @ 5500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5 speed gear box and has a top speed of 101 kmph.
Key features of the bike are Mono suspension at rear, Black alloy wheels, Front disc brake, Automatic headlamp On (AHO) and 3D Wing mark emblem.
