Hyundai India has tasted quite a success with the Creta compact SUV. The company now wants to grab its share in the sub four metre SUV segment with the Carlino SUV concept which was unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo today.
The Carlino concept is a sub 4 metre SUV which will compete head on with the Ford Ecosport, Mahindra TUV 3OO and Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza which was unveiled today.
HND-14, Carlino is sub 4-meter concept SUV developed at the Hyundai Namyang Design Centre. HND-14, Carlino boasts multi-function lifestyle ability making an urban iconic statement with its unique design and stylish exteriors. The futuristic design direction showcases Hyundai’s commitment to meet the growing aspirations of Indian customers opting for SUV’s.
The Carlino concept design features an upright stance with a high bonnet and large chrome grille flanked by edgy headlights. Lower down, the bumper gets square type LED day time running lights, a beefy bumper design and skid plate. The side profile has muscular wheel arches and huge wheels which gives a hint of high ground clearance. The large glass area gives feeling of buoyancy and roominess on the inside. Though the overall design seems boxy especially at the rear, the lower half of the rear bumper looks interesting with faux air vents and a skid plate.
The engine line – up could likely be a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.4 litre diesel power plant borrowed from the Elite i20. Transmission choices could be 5 speed manual and a 5 speed automatic gearbox.
The HND-14, Carlino compact SUV India launch could happen in 2016.
