Ignis to be Maruti’s trump card against the Mahindra KUV 100 and Renault Kwid 1000cc

Maruti Suzuki will debut the Ignis compact crossover at the Delhi Auto Expo next month. The Ignis is the production version of the Suzuki iM-4 concept (that was previewed in Geneva earlier this year). The design of the Ignis makes it look like a compact crossover with a jacked up stance. The Ignis broke cover in 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show and has been recently launched in Japan.

The exterior of the Ignis will get a chrome lined grille, blackened A and B pillars, Square shape headlamps with U – Shape LED daytime running strip, lower mounted fog lamps with chrome lining, while the rear gets a suqarish tailamps with the number plate garnish mounted on the boot lid itself, rear bumpers with lower black inserts, rear mounted spoiler, rear windscreen wiper and flared wheel arch.. On the side 15 inch multi spoke alloy wheels will be on offer which neatly house in the flared arch.

To add to the premium look the Ignis gets mirror mounted side turn indicators. The Ignis could also get contrasting colours for the roof, mirrors and dashboard trims as an option. Maruti hasn’t revealed much about the Ignis interiors yet, but it could get dual tone dashboard treatment with an integrated touchscreen for the infotainment system with Smart Play function and Apple car play.

Powering the Ignis is the familiar range of engines, the 1.2 litre Petrol and 1.3 litre DDIS diesel with SHVS technology. The Ignis is expected to deliver 22 kmpl for the petrol variant and 29 kmpl for the diesel motor.

The Ignis measures 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm wide and 1595 mm of height and has a wheelbase of 2,438 mm.

The Ignis is expected be produced with 95% localisation and will be priced in the region of Rs. 4.8 to 6.8 lakhs. In terms of competition the Maruti – Suzuki Ignis will take on the Mahindra KUV 1OO and the Renault Kwid.

Like the Baleno the Igins could be a global model made in India and the company might also export the vehicle to Latin and Middle East Asian countries.

According to reports, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be sold via the company’s premium Nexa dealerships and will be launched in the Indian market during the Diwali festive season.
