German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz, has introduced the new GLA-Class in the Indian market. With the GLA-Class the company made its debut in the luxury SUV segment in India which is currently growing at a fast pace.
The GLA-Class will be available with two engine options; the 2.0 litre petrol and the most frugal 2.2 litre diesel. The SUV will be available in three variants GLA 200 CDI Sport, GLA 200 CDI Style and GLA 200 Sport.
GLA’s four-cylinder engines with turbocharging and direct injection are mated to a 7G-DCT 7 speed dual clutch transmission. The 2 litre petrol engine produces 135kW@5500 rpm with a maximum torque of 300Nm @ 1200-1400 rpm. 0-100 kmph reaches in 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 225 kmph. The 2.2 litre diesel engine produces a maximum output of 100kW@3600–4400 rpm with a maximum torque of 300Nm@1600-3000 rpm. It accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 9.9 seconds with a top speed of 205 kmph.
The GLA 200 CDI has a fuel efficiency of 17.9 kmpl.
The GLA is based on the Modular Front-wheel Drive (MFA) platform which also underpins the A-Class, B-Class and CLA-Class. The exteriors exude the new Mercedes-Benz design with hallmark Mercedes-Benz SUV genes such as large wheel arches, raised body which lends a muscular look. Design highlight on the front include – Power domes, bold twin-louver grille painted in high-gloss silver, two massive chrome inserts, Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, diamond-pattern front grille and roof rails painted in black high gloss.
From the side the GLA follows the design philosophy, with the “dropping line” which emerges at the headlamp and extends to the rear wheel arch. The rear displays a characteristic SUV appeal with rear bumper with black grain trim and under guard in matt silver chrome. The large roof spoiler in bucket tooth design is another attractive feature. The GLA features Bold 18-inch 5-twin spoke light alloy wheels, which are unique in the segment.
The interiors are similar to the A-Class with Five round air vents in the front dashboard and high-quality feel. All trim surfaces feature a silver wave-look, resulting in a metallic finish with a “cool-touch” effect. The front seats are electrically adjustable with memory function and feature 4-way lumbar support. Upholstery colour options in ARTICO leather are available in beige or black for the Sport version. The panoramic glass provides a bright & welcoming ambience. The rear glass section brings light and even additional head room to the passengers in the rear.

The GLA has achieved the maximum 5 stars in Euro NCAP’s latest safety ratings. The GLA offers a maximum of seven airbags in the segment and ATTENTION ASSIST making a very safe SUV.
The GLA-Class 200 CDI Style is priced at Rs. 32.75 lakhs, the 200 Sport is priced at Rs. 36 lakhs and the 200 CDI Sport is priced at Rs.36.9 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
The GLA comprises many segment first features that will appeal to the new & younger generation of customers, who want a stylish and dynamic luxury SUV having practicality of everyday use.
