Renault is all set to launch its new small car Kwid in the Indian market very soon. Renault dealers have started to accept bookings for the small car and are charging Rs. 10,000-20,000 depending on location.
The Kwid, Renault’s first car in the sub Rs. 4 lakhs segment is going to be a different car in terms of styling considering the traditional designed hatchbacks in this segment.
The Kwid will be manufactured at Renault Nissan plant in Chennai with very high localization content (upto 98%) which was stressed by the company big boss Carlos Ghosn.
In terms of design the Kwid does feel like a small version of the Duster SUV with a bold and muscular front end.
Kwid’s short front and rear overhangs coupled with high ground clearance of 180mm further accentuate the SUV like looks.
The front grille design which is also found on the Lodgy highlights the logo and further emphasises the Kwid’s SUV credentials.
The interiors are spacious and the tall boy design will help to offer higher headroom and legroom. The interiors get dull grey colour scheme and simple a simple dashboard layout. A segment first is the large seven-inch (18 cm) touch screen with MediaNav system, USB and Aux–in which is going to be one of the key USPs of the Kwid.
Another first in this segment is the digital instrument cluster with speedometer, tachometer fuel gauge and other warning indicators.
The Kwid will be powered by an 800c petrol engine. This is a new engine which has been jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. Transmission option includes a five speed manual and an AMT automatic gearbox in the future.
The motor makes a maximum of 57bhp and 75 Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Kwid will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Alto K10, Hyundai Eon and Datsun GO. The upcoming small car will come at a starting price of Rs. 3 lakhs.
