Czech car maker ŠKODA will launch the MY 2015 Rapid on the 25th of this month. The date coincides with the launch of the new Mahindra Scorpio (click here to view undisguised images). ŠKODA recently launched the facelifted Yeti with a complete new design in single top variant only.
The MY2015 ŠKODA Rapid will be equipped with new features and the new 1.5 diesel engine which develops 105 PS of peak power and 250 Nm of Torque. The same engine also does duty on the facelifted Polo and soon to be launched 2015 VW Vento.
The Rapid with 1.5 diesel engine will also be available with a 6 speed DSG making it the second car after Hyundai Verna to offer a diesel automatic. ŠKODA had launched the MY2014 Rapid early this year with new features like projector headlamps, Bluetooth®, audio and telephone controls on the steering wheel and new design alloy wheels.
The Rapid is currently the entry level car for ŠKODA in India and is a crucial car for generating volumes. The Honda City is top competitor followed by Verna and Vento. The Rapid is currently the third bestselling sedan in its segment and the new diesel engine with DSG could help to increase higher volumes. There are also rumors of ŠKODA introducing a special black edition of the Rapid.
