Tata Motors is all set to launch the Tiago hatchback in the Indian market on the 6th of April. The car has already seen a lot of delay first due to the name change from Zica to Tiago and later due to the striking workers at the Sanand plant.
The Tiago is the next gen product from Tata Motors and is a very important product, the success of which will decide the future course for the Indian auto maker. The company has been losing market share in the last 3-4 years and has slipped below the 5th position.
The Tiago will be offered in 5 variants – XE, XM, XMS, XT and XZ and two engine options – 1.2 petrol and 1.05 diesel.
The petrol motor an all-new 1.2-litre three cylinder DOHC aluminium engine develops 85Ps @ 6000 rpm of power and 114 Nm @ 3500 rpm of torque. The diesel engine also an all-new 1.05 litre three cylinder DOHC unit made of aluminium with a cast-iron block generates 70 Ps @ 4000 rpm of power and 140 Nm @ 1800-3000 rpm of torque.
Another segment first is the driving modes ‘City’ and ‘Eco’ which help to enhance the fuel efficiency depending on the drive mode one selects.
The Tiago will be positioned below the Bolt and Above the GenX Nano and measures 3,746 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width, 1,535 mm in height and 2,400 mm in wheelbase. The car has a short turning circle of 4.9 meters and fuel tank capacity of 35 liters. The Tiago petrol weighs 1012 kgs while the diesel 1080kgs.
Pricing could start at Rs. 3.5 for the base petrol and Rs. 4.25 for the base diesel and will compete with the likes of Kwid, Beat, Go, Micra Active, Alto K10, Wagon R and Celerio.
