Toyota Aygo will only be showcased at the Auto Expo, no plans to introduce in India
Toyota will display an array of products at the 2016 Auto Expo next month. The Japanese car maker will be displaying the Aygo small hatchback to gauge customer feedback and understand if market for premium small hatchback could be possible.
The Aygo is a premium hatchback which shares its underpinnings with the Citroen C1. The exterior of the Aygo sports a stylish design, the face looks aggressive with the sharp headlamps and X shape design stands out from regular hatchback designs. The side profile has a neat design while the rear profile looks futuristic.
The interiors have a funky theme with a sporty Red and Black colour combination. The dashboard has a large 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system and funky AC controls. The steering wheel gets steering mounted controls and triple analog instrument cluster. The Aygo is also packed with safety features such as ABS, EBD, VSC, Curtain airbags, TPMS and hill start control.
Engine – line up for the Aygo includes a 1.0 litre petrol motor producing 68 bhp and 95 nm of torque mated to a 5 – speed manual gearbox and a X – shift automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The Aygo returns a strong fuel economy of 23.8 kmpl.
Currently Toyota has imported two models of the Aygo in India and will be showcased at the Auto Expo.
High price of the Aygo makes it unviable for Indian market. Toyota would most likely exit the small car market altogether and may bring in the Daihatsu brand to compete in the volumes market and will place the Toyota brand in the premium segment only.
