Volkswagen has announced the global unveiling of the India specific compact sedan at the 2016 Auto Expo. The compact sedan codename: VW ICS, is rumoured to be known as Ameo and has been caught testing on Mumbai Pune Express way.
The Volkswagen Ameo will be showcase at the 2016 Auto Expo and the commercial launch is mostly to happen in the second half of year.
From the pic it’s clear the Ameo will get a short boot with design similar to the larger sedan Vento. The tail lamps remind you of the Polo with L-shaped brake lights. To give the car a more upmarket feel and make it competitive, Volkswagen will offer beige interiors and will borrow the interiors, dashboard and equipment from the Polo.
Engine options include the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel which also does duty on the Polo. We could expect VW to tune the petrol engine for more power and may also offer its 7-speed DSG on the diesel.
The 1.2 TSI motor may also be offered incase the demand for a more powerful sedan arises.
In terms of features the Ameo will be equipped with Cornering lights, ORVM with turn indicators, body coloured bumpers and door handles,15-inch alloy wheels (Set of 4), Galvanised body with 6-year anti-corrosion warranty, Sporty flat-bottom steering wheel design, Leather-wrapped steering wheel with chrome accents and piano black finish, Leather-wrapped gearshift knob, Cruise control, Climatronic’ automatic air conditioning, Power windows with one-touch operation (front and rear),CD/MP3 player with USB, Aux-in, SD card input and 4 Speakers, Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones and Voice Command and Rear parking sensors to name a few.
We can expect Volkswagen’s High-quality, scratch-resistant dashboard and superior fit and finish interiors. Variant options include Trendline, Comfortline and top end Highline.
The Volkswagen compact sedan Ameo will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Motors Zest, Ford Figo Aspire and Honda Amaze.
